For hundreds of Oklahoma families, the possibility of becoming a homeowner is brought to
reality because of the tireless efforts of the Oklahoma City Habitat for Humanity. Due to the increased number of people living in urban areas, there has become a major need for shelters. Luckily, this organization firmly believes in providing safe and affordable housing to those in need. The Oklahoma City Habitat for Humanity empowers families by offering an affordable mortgage so that they get the chance to create savings and invest in their own educations.
The partnership that the Habitat for Humanity creates with families is like none other. Their
mission, “Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope” emphasizes their goals, but they also don’t let their religious affiliation impact the work of the charity. Habitat for Humanity has a strict “Non-Proselytizing Policy” that, “will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must adhere to or convert to a particular faith or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.”
This polity ensures that people aren’t driven away from the pressure to be a certain religion just to receive help.
This organization also feels as though one of its most important priorities is to advocate for
those that cannot on their own. Habitat for Humanity actively works to change policies and systems that would barre people from living in a world without adequate and affordable housing. To become a Habitat homeowner, there is an in-depth process to ensure the success of homeownership. It all begins with meeting the requirements that Habitat for Humanity sets. For one, prospective applicants must demonstrate a crucial need for safe and affordable housing. They also believe that Habitat homeowners should put in what they get out, meaning that they help build their own home or homes for others. Finally, they must be able to pay an affordable mortgage that are cycled back into the community to help build other Habitat homes.
For millions around the world, Habitat for Humanity has gifted people with the gift of safe and affordable homeownership. In Oklahoma City area specifically, the Oklahoma City Habitat for Humanity continuously strives to serve the community one habitat home at a time. Not only can you donate money to help the cause, but this organization also encourages people and groups to volunteer their time to help build houses or work in the Habitat office so that the operations can run more smoothly and efficiently. This organization changes peoples lives in communities all over the world, but one of the most rewarding factors of Habitat for Humanity is that they help people in our Oklahoma City community. Changing real peoples lives around us all.
