Poverty is a problem not only in Oklahoma but around the world. Oklahoma is to be the 16th highest in poverty rate. Everyone one in six Oklahomans, on average, are to be considered “poor.” Work status, age, education, and family structure are all included in this. The Infant Crisis Center is a nonprofit organization in the Oklahoma City area. Their mission is to provide life-sustaining formula, food, and diapers to babies and toddlers in times of crisis, because no baby should go hungry. They provide a lot for families in need. For toddlers and babies they offer a one week supply of diapers, clothing, bottle, a pack of wipes, pack of baby or toddler food, and clothing. The Infant Crisis Center also has an event each year for car seat distributions. People in the community can donate things such as clothing, shoes, toys.

On the Infant Crisis Center website they offer a section where you can donate.

$25 provides a week’s worth of formula

$40 provides diapers for an entire month

$100 provides formula for an entire month

$200 provides baby food for ten babies

You also have the option to enter your own amount of choice

A way to get involved in the community if volunteering. They offer a lot of volunteering opportunities such as personal shoppers, client intake specialists, Spanish translators, playroom attendant, and much more. Teens have the chance to help too, they offer a teen associates board, tween board, and after school teen volunteering. College students, people with flexible schedules, or someone who wants to volunteer weekly are available. There is a place for everyone.

Additional resources the Infant Crisis Center offers are abuse organizations, baby items, child development, education, food pantries, women’s health, employment assistance, parenting help, medical and health care, and housing + utilities.

Boots and ball gowns is a huge event held each year. This evening features dinner, raffles, entertainment, and dancing throughout the night. Tons of companies sponsor this event every year. It is awesome because it is a fun evening, but money is also being raised in the process. Funds throughout the event go towards diapers, food, clothing, toys.

I think the Infant Crisis Center is a great non-profit organization for the local community. They are helping others while also raising awareness. This is an important topic to be covered. I think people do not realize how much some people in our community are struggling. This is a great way to get involved and help make awareness.
